About the guest speaker:

Kathy is a native of Baton Rouge and was raised by her grandparents before moving to Natchitoches, La in 1977. She has been married to her husband, Bubba, for 39 years and has 4 children, 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She graduated high school in 1975 and then received a Cosmetology degree and 475 hours towards a Cosmetologist Instructor degree. She attended NSU and ULM for Accounting and Psychology. She became a Notary in 1986. She ran the family Company, Coatings Manufacturers, Inc. from 1982-1990; held a position for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in Monroe for several years after her mother-in-law was killed by a drunk driver. She also has been active with Girl Scouts, becoming a Girl Scout leader and doing fundraisers. She has long been an avid animal rehabber along with her adopted granddaughter, Anna who inspires to become a veterinarian and currently entering her Junior year at LSU! Kathy retired in 1991 and dedicated herself to caring for her family and volunteering. She and her husband have been involved in raising six grandchildren with the oldest one, they adopted, - whom they have had since birth -Need I say how proud they are! The others range from 14to 8! While there are many challenges raising grandchildren it’s a very humbling and rewarding task. Kathy is a on the Board of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Information Center of Louisiana (GRGICL), a 501©(3) Organization and currently she serves on the Board as Secretary/Treasurer/CEO. She has held this position for over 10 years and is dedicated to the mission of the Organization. She also was a Board member of Inter Civic Council of Greater Baton Rouge and is on the Governor’s Advisory Board for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and the Advisory Board for the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). She currently is on the Children's Cabinet Advisory Board, appointed by the Governor, as well as a Board Member for the EBR Council on Aging., a member of Generations Grandfamilies voices and Generations United Advisory Council. She has been a key figure in the PTO for Belfair Montessori Magnet School for many years and donates snowballs at the school on a regular basis as a fundraiser for the School. She is dedicated to the community and the children. Kathy was recently nominated for the Blue Cross Angel Award! She's very proud of this honor! One of her passions is cooking, and with eight in the family she tends to stay in the kitchen a lot! She loves taking her babies and their animals in their fifth wheel and heading out to campgrounds! In addition to attending their church, she enjoys dedicating her time to help all she can, including rehabbing baby squirrels!
