About the guest speakers:
Devi Miron Murphy, PhD
Dr. Murphy's clinical interests are psychotherapy and psychological assessment with youth and families. Specifically, her clinical activities include the assessment and treatment of young children and families who have experienced trauma, such as abuse, neglect or exposure to domestic violence. She is also interested in the evaluation and treatment of attachment disruptions. Dr. Murphy's research interests include investigating long-term social, emotional, and cognitive outcomes in children who have had traumatic experiences, and promoting sensitive caregiving for young children in foster care. She also provides training in evidence-based treatments for children and adolescents, as well as consultation to New Orleans area public schools.
Sabrina G. Lewis, MSW
Sabrina G. Lewis was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sabrina graduated from Dillard University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. In 2003, Sabrina earned a Master of Social Work degree from Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). After graduating from SUNO she worked as an Independent Living Skills Facilitator with foster care youth at Family Services of Greater New Orleans. After Sabrina’s time at Family Services, she went on to gain multiple certifications and jobs in the social services field. She is a Certified Parent Education Facilitator, Certified Infant Mental Health Specialist, and Multisystemic therapist.
She has over 20 years of social work experience working with children, families, and individuals as an agent of support and guidance. She has also held positions in case management, counselor, and supervisor. Her professional life includes a commitment to serving the needs of children and families.
She has been employed by Tulane University for the past 11 years and has been the Family Resource Center Director for 3 of the 11 years at the Tulane Parenting Education Program (T-PEP). Her role as the T-PEP Family Resource Center director is to provide administrative and programmatic direction services within the family resource center contracted by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), including oversight of the Boys Town My Community Cares Program. She also supervises all staff within the Family Resource Center (FRC). She has a wealth of knowledge of community resources and has established meaningful relationships over the years with various programs and agencies. She serves as a resource for her colleagues by providing in-depth information on local resources that is shared with families receiving parenting skills and concrete services.
